Ireland with the Globus Family of Brands

This Saturday – Saint Patrick’s Day – the Travel Show will “Jump into Ireland” to explore this beautiful land, meet its people and experience the renowned Irish hospitality. Ireland is packed with unique, authentic things to do. For some iconic Irish tourism experiences click here.

2012 is an exciting year for tourism in Ireland. After the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on March 17th, the Titanic Belfast Festival begins March 31, 2012 and continues through April. And as always, there are lots of events going on throughout the year, including the Irish Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club and The 50th International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin in June. For information on Festivals and Events in Ireland click here.

Visit Northern Ireland this year! There are special events and anniversaries, and the new Titanic Visitor Centre celebrates Belfast’s ship building heritage – including its most famous project, the design, building and launch of the Titanic! This April the city where she was built will mark the centenary of her tragic sinking on her maiden voyage across the Atlantic. The Titanic Belfast experience is the world’s largest Titanic visitor attraction and is twice the size of Belfast’s City Hall. Opening on March 31, 2012 the six-storey attraction is filled with exhibitions uncovering the story of Titanic – its origins, construction, launch and history.

In conjunction with the opening of the new Titanic Belfast attraction, the Titanic Belfast Festival will run from March 31, 2012 until May 2012 and will include plays, tours, exhibitions and talks all themed around the Titanic. Commemorations for the lives lost on the anniversary of the ship’s sinking will take place from April 14 to 15, 2012. MTV is also staging two major outdoor music events on the Titanic Slipways.

Beginning June 30, 2012 Northern Ireland will host the largest outdoor theatre and arts event ever staged as it celebrates all things associated with giants – from the mythical giant of Finn McCool from the Giant’s Causeway to the literary giants featured in Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels (which was inspired by Belfast’s landscape). Located in the Titanic Quarter on the very slipways Titanic was launched, the Land of Giants will include a carnival, circus and music celebrating this theme.

Coinciding with its own Maritime Festival from June 30 to July 8, 2012 Derry~Londonderry will welcome the 10-strong international fleet as it plays host to the final transatlantic stage of the 40,000-mile Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Teams will arrive from Nova Scotia, Canada, during the last leg. Derry~Londonderry's own yacht is promoting the fact that this city will be the UK City of Culture in 2013.

And Northern Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant’s Causeway, will also open its new state-of-the-art visitor centre in September 2012.
